Default Thoughts on Pascal Janin's PI-1 X4?

Hey all, shopping for System 1 boards, and I'm currently wavering between the Ni-wumpf and a Pascal Janin board... Pascal's PI-1 X4 looks pretty slick, and the thought of having an all-in-one that I won't have to worry about is pretty enticing, too.

Any of you have experience with Pascal's boards, either the PI-1 MPU replacement, or the all-in-one PI-1 X4?

I used the Pi-1. I cannot recommend Pascal highly enough!! He's a great guy, and his boards are the absolute highest quality. Theres a 'labor of love', and then there's Pascals work.

Personally, if your power board is good and the caps are replaced, and your driver board is good, then just get the Pi-1. If you already need the other boards, then get the X4.

This board puts the sys. 1 games on a level playing field with other SS games of the era or better. The added features are awesome.

Pascal's boards are awesome. I have the X4. If you have the money I would go for the X4 board.

Keep in mind that you'll also want to replace all of the connector pins while you're at it.

Think I'm going with the X4. It's a bit pricely (especially considering it's double what I paid for the machine itself), but with all the time I've sunk into rebuilding this Count-Down, I think I'll be hanging on to it for a while.

You can of course recoup some of your money by selling your regular boards. Does you original CPU work? You can get $100 or so for a tested working Sys1 board.

Thanks for the advice all, I went ahead and ordered the X4. Once I've got it up and running, I'll post some impressions (and start listing the old boards for sale).

Received and installed the board last night... I can't say enough good things about this thing! Everything works beautifully, and the enhanced feature set really reinvigorates these old games. Skill shot is a nice touch, top 5 high scores (with name entry), attract mode, various lamp behaviors, etc etc, all edited by an easy to use menu system.

Here's the package:

(the wiring runs from the board to the speaker in the cabinet)

Installed:

that is cool to see just one little board power everything. You should make a video of what it looks like running with the added features you described.
